The Franciscan Centre for Christian Spirituality (FCCS) is a new venture launched by the Franciscan International Study Centre to allow us to respond to the desire for a spiritual home where the Franciscan Spiritual Tradition takes centre stage. The Franciscan Tradition, entailing a positive approach to creation and the human condition, is arousing growing interest around the world and the FCCS is designed to bring its insights to a wider congregation in the UK.

For Franciscans theology and spirituality are never separated. Our theological tradition informs our spiritual life and our spiritual life gives the context for the renewal of our theological tradition. Hence the compatibility of the Study Centre and the Centre for Christian Spirituality – giving the Franciscan family and the Church in Britain a place where the searches for holiness and learning complement each other and are both valued for their contribution to true human flourishing.

We are launching the FCCS with a series of courses and days designed to nourish the human spirit. Training in Spiritual Direction in the Franciscan Tradition is central to the FCCS and is offered both as a ten week intensive residential programme and an extended programme spread over a year. An icon writing course will enable participants to explore their spiritual side through this ancient Christian art form. God’s Extravagant Love is a programme exploring the distinctive insights of Franciscan theology and how they impact on our spiritual life. Day retreats to prepare for major Christian feasts and celebrate the seasons will be offered during the year.

And … Well, we are open to suggestions and contributions from Christians seeking a forum for their contributions to spiritual growth and evangelisation. So please do contact us with further suggestions.
